MORE THAN 5000 YEARS
In ancient times it was called Black Lake, Eshatiotis and also Gorgopis (a name taken from the Gorge daughter of Megarea who drowned in the lake).
Traces of human settlement of the EH period have been found near the narrow channel of the lake, indicating that the area has been inhabited since the 3rd millennium BC.
This is a quite, attractive location full of pine trees and tamarisk trees. On arrival, you will see small beaches, most of which have fine pebbles or sand and are located next to a road.
Limni Vouliagmeni is just 1.5 hours from Athens and 30 minutes from Loutraki. To get there, follow the road leading to Perachora from Loutraki. Then follow the road that goes downhill from the village.
The place is suitable for water sports and the entire lakeside road, which stretches for about 5 km around the lake, is ideal for cycling enthusiasts.
At the southwest side lies the chapel of Agios Nikolaos, which is rather beautiful; many choose to have their wedding here.
In all, a very nice little trip for your swim, while in Athens. Many other attractions nearby, but those will be mentioned in another post.
