Schinias famous coastal pine forest

WHERE DO ATHENIANS GO TO SWIM?

Living in Athens means you are blessed with so many privileges and wonders. One of them is that you can find amazing beaches to swim at within an hour’s drive.

Schinias is one of the best options in my opinion.

A HOLY BEACH

The Persian forces landed on this beach 2500 years ago to attack Athens. The plain nearby was where the famous Battle of Marathon took place.

If the Athenians had lost in Marathon, Greece might have never gone to develop the peak of its civilization, a peak whose fruits we moderns have inherited.

ONE RULE FOR THIS SUMMER

We decided to take short trips every weekend to swim in the Greek sea around Athens, but with one rule: never go to the same beach twice this summer.

So, last weekend we went off to a unique place called Schinias. This is a place really strange to describe, but rather magical to be in.

The umbrella-like pine trees are countless and are so large, that their shade can easily hold 3-4 families underneath. You have to walk a bit for the sea, but I would never changed the experience just to be closer to the water.

I strongly recommend you visit this historic site and feel the breeze, while swimming in the waters of the beach once unfortunately chosen by the Persians to invade Athens.
