Through the cat’s eye: A short macro trip
AT A GLANCE
Sometimes a glance is enough. Not a quick recognition, but a thorough, relaxed exploration. I was looking through my camera when I came across an image that completely captivated me: the emerald world inside a cat's eye. We often say that "the eyes are the window to the soul," and while I'm not entirely sure what goes on in the enigmatic soul of a cat, I can tell you that this window is a masterpiece of nature.
Let's take a closer look.
The first thing that strikes you, of course, is the enchanting green. It is not a flat, indifferent color, but a canvas with shades of olive, stone, and even gold. An iris, a tiny landscape of peaks and valleys that capture and refract light in amazing ways. It's like looking at a map of another planet, vivid and full of color, like looking into the eyes of an alien. The pupil, that sharp, vertical slit, comes next. In bright light, it narrows to an almost impossible thin line, a testament to the incredible adaptability of a cat's vision. It is a precision instrument, designed for both daytime hunting and nighttime cover. You can almost feel the sharpness, the focus, the predator lurking behind it.
And those reflections! Tiny flashes of light create the reflection of a neoclassical building, one of many near Kallimarmaro. A few random photos like this one remind us to slow down and really see the details. It highlights the intricate beauty that exists all around us, often hidden in plain sight, waiting for our authentic observation or even a chance encounter.
