Beauty around us / Kimolos
Kimolos is a very beautiful little island in the middle of Aegean Sea.
The only way to reach the island is by ferry, either from Piraeus port or from Milos island via a local ferryboat.
I’ve been there for a commission for Taxidia magazine last June.
Here are some of my favourite images from this trip.
You can also watch a video I did about Kimolos here.
Shadow on Skiadi
One of the most famous landmarks of the island, is the strange geological formation called Skiadi. Skiadi is a huge mushroom-shaped stone in the middle of a small valley, where someone can only hike to. It was created because the dust carried by the wind continuously scratches the rock, revealing the softer layers at the bottom much more than the harder layers of the top. This process, centuries in the making, created the characteristic, unique shape of the rock.
Mine and ours
Betonite has a variety of uses in industry. The most notable presence of bentonite is in the northeast part of Kimolos, where lies the only active mine of the island.
So happy together
Two young parents playing with their newborn angel on a beautiful beach of Kimolos island.
Bird's eye beauty
Prassa, as seen from above. Probably the most famous beach of Kimolos.
Flying Rustman
Looking like a ghost, this rusty ship actually waits for its cargo, in the sea between Kimolos and Milos island, Cyclades.
Cine Kalisperitis
"Κimolistas is a group of residents-volunteers who prepare great activities every year. One of the best known is the screening of films in summer "cinemas" that do not exist, but are set up by the islanders themselves in various places on the island, just for the screening.
Fire in the waters
Magical golden hour somewhere in the Aegean Sea, near Kimolos.
Sauroneye
Mavrospilia beach in Kimolos is famous for its sunsets. Combined with the steep cliffs, it creates an eerie landscape, reminiscent of Scandinavia rather than the Aegean Sea.
Rock'n'cloud
A rock is seen in the waters outside the island of Polyaigos, with a similar shaped cloud above. The island of Polyaigos is located southeast of Kimolos and is the largest uninhabited island of the Aegean Sea.
Lava click
