Photography-The Foundations – My first eBook!

At last!

I am very proud to officially release my first eBook, in Greek and English.
(Hopefully, when I grow up, I will write a novel as well.)

I carried it much longer than its volume indicates, but probably less than the fact that it's my first would justify.

Its story began about two years ago, when I decided I wanted to offer something in return to all those good people who were kind enough to add their email to my newsletter recipient list.

I always make sure that my newsletter emails are sparse in frequency and that I always have something interesting to say, rather than just sticking to a weekly schedule of...spamming. I don't like to do to others what annoys me.

So, apart from the non-spamming rule, I thought it would be nice to offer something else to my newsletter subscribers, and so the idea of a small guide (received by some lucky ones early*) was born.

After a while I realised that the guide could have been much longer and I started to collect notes and texts. What I thought would be finished in a few days, actually took many many weeks and required a lot of work, erasing and rewriting, changes in design, colors, fonts, etc.

When it was clear that I had in my hands a result that I liked very much, that's when I thought about making it an official release and after following the procedures, my eBook "Photography-The Bases" got its ISBN number and from today it is in the store of my website and on Amazon.

My favourite homeland of Delphi. The center of the whole Earth, according to Greek mythology.

The cover photo puzzled me quite a bit, but I think I found the perfect image. I wanted to find a photo from my archives that served two purposes:

  • One, to communicate a more personal feel and

  • Second, to reference the title of the book.

The one I finally found serves both of these (it's my favourite column from Delphi, my homeland and of course it refers to foundations, like the title), but it also contains another, hidden, connection to my life. The photo was taken a very long time ago (perhaps more than 30 years) and while I have taken almost the same photo much more recently, I chose this one as a secret connection between my first book and my distant past.

One last note on the price. Many reviewers and friends have pointed out that it is very cheap and I might have to consider raising the price. They are right, of course, it is very cheap. But that was the intention. I remember back then, when I started in photography, everything was so expensive. Today it's even worse, everything related to photography is almost out of reach. So, since this ebook is mainly aimed at young people who are just starting their photography journey, I wanted to give them the opportunity to buy my ebook with the money they would give for a coffee.

I hope that its readers will enjoy it and that it will help them in their first steps, but most of all I hope that it will be the first trigger for them to want to explore the world of photography in depth. For it is truly a magical world. It doesn't matter whether one looks at its technical part, its evolution in the few years it has been around, its aesthetic part, its theory, its eclectic affinities with painting, the expressive tools it offers or the innovations it can contribute to; photography is Magic.

You can buy the eBook in Greek from my store and
in English here (Amazon UK) and here (Amazon US).

*New subscribers to my newsletter now receive as a reward a useful chart that makes up page 36 of the guide.
