Marketing myself or How to avoid common mistakes at the start of your web presence - Part 5 / Blog

The need for promoting and sharing new photographic material which is relatively dense and it can’t be jammed under the ‘New Work’ section of my website all the time, inevitably leads to the creation of a blog.

Some other reasons that render the existence of a blog imperative are the often interesting stories behind the pictures, as well as the freedom of being able to write something that isn’t directly related to photographic pictures, such as equipment, some reviews, the logo, rebranding etc.

So this is the gap a photographer’s blog is meant to fill. Through my blog I can share any knowledge I have about photographing techniques as well as my personal experiences. There can also be a more interactive relationship with the visitor in comparison with the website.

Some of the reasons why I chose for my blog to use Squarespace were:

  • Their long-lasting presence in this field (they began in 2004)

  • The great support provided by their specialised staff

  • The beautiful way of presentation

  • The ultimate customization, which is relatively easy to achieve, even on one’s own

  • The dead-easy way of uploading photos on your posts

  • The introduction of comments with captcha

  • The zero knowledge of code that is (not) needed

  • Very good SEO

  • The special interactive relation to mobile sites for a proper presentation on smartphones and finally

  • The price

I cannot recommend Squarespace enough. It is the best solution for problems I’ve had for a quite some time.
