A few words about me

ON A TUESDAY, LONG TIME AGO

Today is my birthday, so a few words about me, as a short review.

(Bonus: extreme embarrassment, as this is the first time I'm posting more photos of myself than I've ever posted online)

1978

One of the reasons I enjoy life and definitely one of the reasons I chose to become a photographer is travel. Any kind of travel.

I was lucky enough to be born in Delphi, so I became really familiar with travellers from all over the world who came to admire the ancient beauty of the place I call my village.

On the other hand, I was blessed enough to travel very often with my family from a very tender age.

A TRAVELLER IS BORN

The Statue of Antinous, Delphi Archaeological Museum. |Perhaps the most beautiful marble portrait that influenced me a lot in my youth.

We travelled as a family for many days every time we had holidays (Christmas, Easter, summer) to new places, always in my father’s beloved red Alfa Romeo Giulia GT Junior 1300. My father had to sell it when I was 12, since me and my sister couldn’t fit in the back seats any more…

One of the most frequent thing we did was the short trip almost every three days to the neighbouring and wonderful Galaxidi. Our parents to drink coffee and eat fish by the sea and my little sister and I to play with the ducks and cats in the company of the fishermen.

JUST GET YOURSELF IN THE ROAD

These little outings have become over the years a great pleasure and almost a necessity. I travel at every opportunity. And by traveling I don't necessarily mean distant and exotic destinations (which of course doesn't mean that I reject them). But even a short trip to nearby Evia, for example, and especially to a place I've never been before, is the salt of life for me.

Getting to know the locals, meeting people you've never met before (and probably won't see again), in landscapes your eyes have never seen before and even eating food you've never tasted before, will always be a good reason in itself to appreciate life in its simplest and grandest form.

In terms of photography, I have been lucky enough to shoot faces in Cuba, mines in Poland, buildings in Denmark and blue skies in Greece.

WISH

I wish I'm lucky enough to travel all over the world (twice), but even if I don't manage to capture beautiful images everywhere, I'll definitely be compensated by the joy of traveling.

From my experience, the reverse is almost impossible to happen:

Then

and now

In trains, planes, buses, cars, boats or on foot, I hope what the great Greek poet said:
