Trying to capture the happiness of life and the joy of travelling

BEAUTY AROUND US / PART #0005 / CITIES / ITALY - ROME

What could anybody write about this city, which hasn’t been already said

Fontana di Trevi | Multiple exposures | ISO 100

Piazza di Spagna | f22 | 20" | ISO 100

Loaded with thousands of years of history, perhaps it’s got a lot in common with my own city, Athens, but it’s also got a lot of differences.I’d say that an essential difference lies in the fact that all the important monuments of Rome are much better preserved, organized and presented, in comparison with the ones of Athens.

It’s just like seeing two important ladies in front of you: an aristocrat and a hippie.

Rome is beautiful, brilliant and spotless. It is ideal for endless strolls among the magnificent ancient ruins, as well as along the scenic alleys of the old town.

I think that there is no point in suggesting where to go or what to see. There are countless travel guides and infinite sites and blogs of this kind out there for this reason.

I believe that all places in the world deserve solely the traveller’s spontaneous look; and in Rome this is more the case than anywhere else.

In any case, it is certainly worth sitting at a traditional restaurant and trying spaghetti and pizza properly, accompanied by a bottle of wine.  In this way, you may get an idea of what the mythical Roman feasts were like, probably a few meters further than the place where you are eating, a few thousand years ago.  ONLY IN ROME IT IS POSSIBLE TO UNDERSTAND ROME | JOHANN WOLFGANG von GOETHE
